About Helen Roy Helen Roy began her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in Glasgow. She later studied in Munich and in Italy. Whilst in Italy she won two prestigious competitions in Enna and Merano. She began her professional career with Scottish Opera for All. With their touring company her roles included Lucia di Lammermoor, Gilda in Rigoletto, Countess Adele in Count Ory (Rossini) and many others. She was a guest artist with English National Opera, performing leading roles that included Madam Butterfly, Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Loretta in Gianni Schicci. Her performances of Butterfly, Aida and Violetta (La Traviata) at the Holland Park festivals were highly acclaimed in the National press, as were her Lieder recitals which she performed in many of the major concert halls throughout the UK. “Sensuously beautiful tone.…warm feeling behind every note.” The Times “wonderously exciting singing, beautifully done both in delivery and in intensity of feeling.” Daily Telegraph “musical intelligence….full-voiced and full hearted.” The Times. Helen Roy was head of singing for a number of years at the Urdang Academy, Covent Garden. She now teaches at the Marlybone Studios in Marlybone Lane. |
